Peoria IL School Guide Peoria is home to many excellent schools. There are four public school districts in Peoria, all of which strive to meet the educational needs and interests of the community. Peoria is also home to a number of outstanding private schools, colleges, and universities. Peoria Public SchoolsPeoria Public Schools District 150 The mission of Peoria Public Schools, the cornerstone of academic excellence and the unifying force of our diverse community, is to ensure that each student reaches his or her full academic and personal potential and is a well-balanced citizen through an educational approach characterized by: continuously redefining teaching and learning; optimizing technology to transform the system; providing safe and nurturing environments; engaging and enabling families; effecting community partnerships; embracing and honoring all aspects of diversity; guaranteeing professional staff who are committed to students. Limestone Community High School District #310 Limestone Community School District #310 serves a small portion of the western edge of the City of Peoria (western edges of Wardcliffe and Lexington Hills areas), but mainly serves the suburbs of Bartonville, Bellevue and surrounding towns. It operates Limestone Community High School. It has around 1500 students and is in the Mid-Illini Conference. The "Rockets" of LCHS wear White and Blue and not only field many athletic teams, but also offer many clubs and organizations to engage the mind of the students. Limestone is home to Chicago White Sox slugger Jim Thome (the baseball diamond is named in his honor). Limestone graduated its first class in 1954 and its activities have been a staple in Bartonville social scene ever since.
Dunlap Community Unit School District 323 serves the far north and northwest parts of Peoria that were mostly outside the city before the 1990s. Peoria Heights School District #325 Peoria Heights Community Unit School District #325 is established and dedicated to work to meet the educational interests, needs, and priorities of the parents and students we serve in this community. We recognize the value, unique needs, and contributions of each individual student; and we provide a well-rounded and challenging educational program which will give the student a sound academic foundation upon which to build, grow, and become a secure and productive member of society. Our schools and staff seek to encourage and develop thinking and communication skills, creativity, diversity, sportsmanship, and citizenship, by offering and encouraging student participation through a variety of academic programs and extra curricular activities which will instruct, prepare for the future, and motivate the student. Peoria Christian School supports the Christian home and church by preparing students to lead Christ-like lives through a biblical approach to education. Concordia Lutheran School has been providing children with academic excellence in a Christian environment since 1959. We are affiliated with the Missouri Synod and supported by three local parishes: Mt. Calvary Lutheran, Redeemer Lutheran and Trinity Lutheran. Concordia is a nationally accredited school with approximately 215 students. In addition, the National Assessment of Educational Progress says that Lutheran schools lead the nation in academics. Peoria Notre Dame High School, a Roman Catholic School under the pastoral direction of the Bishop of Peoria, provides Catholic secondary education for the Peoria area. Holy Family Parish School Under the guidance of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, we are a Holy Family that stresses academic excellence with unique opportunities to develop body, mind, and spirit. As a Catholic community, we pray, we learn, we respect, and we serve. Peoria Hebrew Day School Established in 1971, the Peoria Hebrew Day School serves the Reform, Conservative, and Traditional communities of the greater Peoria area. It serves everyone in the community regardless of religious affiliation. PHDS is the only Jewish Day School in downstate Illinois. Our Board of Directors includes representatives from both congregations, and parents of current and past students. The PHDS is a community day school maintained by tuition, generous allocations from the Jewish Federation of Peoria, and contributions from many supportive families and individuals. Bradley University Bradley University, an independent, privately endowed, coeducational institution, was founded in 1897 as Bradley Polytechnic Institute by Lydia Moss Bradley as a memorial to her children and husband, Tobias. It became a four-year college in 1920 and in 1946 became a university and began offering graduate programs. It is fully accredited. |
